Building and running a Box Break or Surprise Set

This guide walks through building a slot pool in Event Builder, pricing it with the Break Optimizer, and running the break live with Set Balancer keeping remaining slots priced fairly.

Box Breaks & Surprise Sets

Step by step

From empty pool to a running break

Open Event Builder

In Seller Mode, open Event Builder and choose Box Break or Surprise Set. The type filter defaults to sealed products for a Box Break, and to every item type for a Surprise Set.

Choose your inventory source

Pull candidates from a single inventory profile, or switch the source to merge every profile together into one pool.

Search, filter and add slots

Use live search and the type filter to narrow the available list, then add items one at a time or use Add All Filtered to pool-fill everything currently visible at once.

Price it with the Break Optimizer

Enter your box cost and a target margin, and the optimizer calculates a profitable per-slot or bundle price from those two numbers.

Record the break live

As you run the break, use Live Break Recorder to track which randomizer result went to which buyer, slot by slot.

Let Set Balancer keep pricing fair

Minimum prices for remaining slots recalculate automatically as the pool empties, so early and late buyers both get a fair price.

Reconcile once it’s done

Import the Whatnot Ledger for that stream, and matching break-spot listings (like “Colour Break”) group automatically so you can assign the cracked product and close out the break.

Tips

Clear the pool and start again with the Clear Pool button if you want a clean slate rather than removing items one by one.

Box Break mode caps how many packs go into a single break — plan slot counts around that before you build the pool.

If a same-day break gets auto-grouped into the wrong event during reconciliation, move it to the correct one from that event’s card.

Common questions

What’s the difference between a Box Break and a Surprise Set?

They share the same builder — a Box Break just defaults its filter to sealed products, while a Surprise Set defaults to every item type.

Can I include Pokémon items in a break?

Pokémon singles can be added, since Event Builder pulls from the same inventory as everything else. Pokémon has no sealed products in inventory, so it won’t appear as a Box Break candidate.

Do I have to use the Break Optimizer?

No — you can set prices manually on each slot if you’d rather not use box cost and margin inputs.
