Setting fee-aware prices

This guide covers configuring your fee settings once, then using them across manual pricing, bulk market-percentage pricing and the Break Optimizer.

Step 1

Set your fee settings once

In Settings → Whatnot Fees, enter Commission %, Payment Processing %, Flat Transaction Fee and VAT on Fees %. Every pricing tool in the app uses these same figures, so update them here if your platform rates change.

How payout is calculated

VAT is charged on top of both the commission and the payment processing fee (which includes the flat fee) — not on the sale price itself:

Commission = sale price × commission %, plus VAT on that commission.

Processing fee = (sale price × processing %) + flat fee, plus VAT on that processing fee.

Payout = sale price minus all four of those amounts added together.

Working backwards: target price from target payout

When you tell Toploader OS what you want to net, it reverses the formula above to work out what to list at, then rounds up to the next whole currency unit by default — so “I want £8 in my pocket” becomes a real listing price that actually nets you £8 or slightly more after fees, never less.

Step 2

Bulk pricing by percentage of market

Select your singles

Select any inventory rows with a saved market price, then open the bulk market-percentage pricing tool.

Set your target percentage

Choose a percentage of market value to price at — 90% is a common starting point for moving stock a little under market.

Choose a rounding mode

Round down (never above your target %), to the nearest whole price, up, or keep exact decimals — the live preview shows an example as you adjust it.

Apply

The computed price is saved as a manual target that survives future market price refreshes — it won’t quietly get overwritten next time prices update.

Reset if you change your mind

Use Reset Manual Targets to clear these back to pure market-led pricing whenever you want.

Pricing a bundle or break

The Break Optimizer, Surprise Set pricing and pack-break pricing all work the same way: your total cost is spread across sellable slots, marked up by your target margin, then run back through the fee-aware target-price formula so the price you set actually nets that margin after fees.

Enter box cost, how many packs you’re keeping for yourself, and your target margin.

The optimizer fills bundle sizes efficiently rather than splitting evenly — you’ll typically get a few full-size bundles plus a smaller leftover one.

Add a materials cost per bundle (toploaders, sleeves) if you want that folded into the price too.

Common questions

Does bulk pricing overwrite my saved market price?

No. It saves a separate manual target price alongside the market price, so future price refreshes don’t quietly undo your pricing decision.

Are kept packs counted as a cost in the Break Optimizer?

No — the box cost is spread only across the packs you’re actually selling, so packs you keep for yourself aren’t charged against your sellable pricing.

Is bulk market-percentage pricing a Pro feature?

Yes, bulk pricing tools are part of the Pro seller workflow.
